Established in loving memory of Warren A. Mackey

Born April 15, 1966, he was a husband, a father, a businessman, a mentor, and a person who genuinely cared about people. Warren passed away peacefully on February 1, 2021, after a battle with heart disease, and now we endeavor to keep his spirit alive with the vision and mission of the Warren and Denyse Mackey Foundation.

Many remember Warren for his tenor voice, witty jokes, and love of the Lord, family and people. A basketball player, coach and fan, he shared his many talents with those around him. Because of his selfless example in life, many, including prominent politicians, business people, and clergy continue to hold him up as an example of a truly compassionate and caring individual. Along with many cherished memories, Warren leaves behind his devoted wife, Denyse, and his outstanding daughters, Madison & Makayla, tremendous people in their own right. The Warren and Denyse Mackey Foundation is dedicated to preserving his memory, vibrant spirit and passion for giving back.

Warren was in a position of having limited options, requiring a high-risk ‘bridge’ surgery, until a heart transplant would have become available. The availability of organs is quite an extensive process requiring you to be highly sick before prioritizing higher on the list. Furthermore, because he was an African American Male with O blood type – with a height and weight more significant than the average, his odds of getting a heart were even further challenging. The organ donor has to be an exact blood type match and within a single-digit percentage of Warren’s height and weight so that it was a sufficient size to support his body type.

The Inaugural Warren Mackey Golf Classic Was a Huge Success!

Albany, New York Mayor Kathy Sheehan declares February 1st. Warren Mackey Day in the City of Albany.

Mayor Sheehan read the proclamation personally as she paid respects at Warren’s burial.

Featured Memory: Street Naming

Jahmel K. Robinson, 5th Ward Councilman, spearheaded a proposal along with Kelly Kimbrough, 4th Ward Councilman, and Gertrude Love, to rename Livingston Avenue (@ intersection of Lark Street).

The proposal was unanimously voted upon by the Albany Common Council, renaming the street Warren Adrian Mackey Way at the March and April Council meetings, enabling the unveiling ceremony to be held on what would have been Warren’s 55th birthday April 15, 2021.

Our Causes

Keeping with Warren’s and Denyse’s philanthropic endeavors the foundation has embraced causes and activities dear to their hearts.

Educational Scholarships

The fund is available for tuition aid assistance for African American girls attending Academy of the Holy Names and African American college-bound students graduating from the Capital District area to help offset expenses associated with their college education.

Youth Program Development

The foundation’s mission is to provide support services for the educational, athletic, religious and mentoring of youth. An emphasis will be on organizations that support youth in under-served communities as well as women & children facing societal marginalization that may be due to, but not limited to, abuse or neglect.

Heart & Cancer Initiatives

Denyse Mackey is a colon cancer survivor and BRCA1 warrior. In addition to heart wellness, the Foundation will elevate awareness on the importance of prioritizing wellness & cancer screenings, emphasizing bridging the health care gap in the African American Community & drawing attention to genetically predisposed risk identification. The Foundation will partner with other organizations to provide programming and resources to assist families stricken with hardship due to heart or cancer illnesses.
